Description
"Petroglyphs of Mohab, Utah #1" by Patti Deters. These petroglyphs are thousands of years old created by Ute, Paleo-Indian, or ancestral Puebloan artists. Petroglyphs are carved into stone by scratching or scraping with a sharp instrument and are generally found on brown or black rock surfaces. There is no known specific translation for prehistoric Moab rock art, interpretation is left with the viewer, it's sort of like ancient graffiti. Here we see tribal art in the shapes of what appears to be a family herd of perhaps Big Horn Sheep. Each Mohab site is unique and you will never see the exact same scene more than once. These are sometimes confused with pictographs which is art created with plant dye and minerals and are commonly found on sandstone rocks.
