Description
“Great Horned Owl and Owlets“ by Patti Deters. These two baby owls were being guarded by their sleepy parent, who would slowly open one eye every so often to make sure all was well. At first glance, you don't even notice the parent bird (mom?) because she blends in so well with the tree bark. These birds are also sometimes called a tiger owl or a hoot owl. This Great Horned Owl and Owlet (Bubo virginianus) were photographed in a city park in the spring in New Brighton, Minnesota. Fantastic family portrait and a wonderful example of nature's camouflage. Congratulations on your 1st place win in the recent Subject Blending In With Its Surroundings contest.
