Description
"Face in the Wood" by Patti Deters. This old sheet of plywood looks like a face with the two orange knots on top as eyes, and the broken area at the bottom being the mouth. Do you see it? This is what is known as pareidolia - the ability or inclination to see familiar objects, such as faces, in unrelated or random other objects. It's a form of apophenia, which is a more generalized term for the tendency to find patterns in random information. The dark staining in the weathered grain adds to the creepiness of this face.
