"Blue Jay Puffy and Cold" by Patti Deters. A single Blue Jay (Corvidae 'Cyanocitta cristata') perches on a birch log and hunkers down, getting puffy so she can insulate herself from the cold frosty air. These passerine backyard birds are common, but are really pretty especially during the winter when they stand out against the snow. This one even has her crested head down to help keep warm. A variety of textures and brush strokes have been added for artistic effect to my own photograph.
