Description
"Black Panther Silhouette" by Patti Deters. A black panther pauses in her hunt to look at the camera, which she senses but cannot clearly see. The fog and mist of the night help shroud her presence from prey, though the glowing moon offers plenty of light for her to see, especially as it reflects off the winter snow on the forest floor. Black panthers are not a distinct species, but 'melanistic' members of the genus Panthera (lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, and snow leopards). The term black panther really only applies to jaguars and leopards because fully black felines don't occur in any of the other species. Regardless of the term, these majestic creatures are known for their stealth, agility, and striking appearance. This image shows a composite panther silhouette against a nighttime forest under a moonlit sky and foggy atmosphere.
