Description
"Green-winged Teal Splash" by Patti Deters. Green-winged teal (Anus crecca) are one of only three types of teal native to North America. Males in breeding plumage are easy to identify primarily by their chestnut head with an iridescent green stripe on their head. These birds thrive in marsh and wetland conditions, and are considered long-distance migrants. The male duck in this photograph was splashing quite earnestly for several minutes in a courting display to catch the attention of a nearby female.
