Description
"Blue-winged Teal Splash" by Patti Deters. Blue-winged teal (Spatula discors) are the second smallest duck in North America and are easy to identify by their bright blue wing patches and prominent white stripe on their face. These birds thrive in marsh and wetland conditions, and are considered long-distance migrants. The male duck in this photograph was splashing quite earnestly for several minutes in a courting display to catch the attention of a nearby female.
