"Yellow Stone at Yellowstone - Selective Color" by Patti Deters. This golden yellow wash from a geyser has stained the rock boulder in the colors of the bacteria that live in the hot waters of the geysers. While visiting Yellowstone National Park, this was one of the first geological formations we saw and our kids were so excited to see this "yellow stone" and thought that was what we had traveled so far to see. Yellowstone was actually named as a reference to the yellow sandstone along the banks of the Yellowstone River several hundred miles away.
