Description
"Mountain Bluebird Pareidolia" by Patti Deters. This little Mountain Bluebird (Sialia currucoides) was sitting on a branch with her back to the camera but her head turned so she is looking at the camera. When I look at her tailfeathers, I could see the formation of a happy face! Do you see it? This is what is known as pareidolia - the ability or inclination to see familiar objects, such as faces, in unrelated or random other objects. It's a form of apophenia, which is a more generalized term for the tendency to find patterns in random information. All that aside, this small puffy blue songbird was photographed in the winter (thrushes like to puff up to keep air in their feathers which helps keep them warm) and I couldn't help but want to place her on a more cheerful and summer background - hence the textured white daisies against a bright blue sky.
