Description
"Female Downy Woodpecker - Winter Berry Maze" by Patti Deters. This female downy woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens) is perched in the branches of a ??? tree - bare in the winter except for a few small berries that the bird was foraging. Downy woodpeckers are the smallest species of woodpecker in North America. With her black and white feathers sitting among white branches, this little female passerine made her own sort of natural abstract artwork. A common songbird, but a favorite for birdwatching.
