Description
“Woodpecker Tio” by Patti Deters. Three Red-bellied Woodpeckers work hard to find seeds for their morning meal. Old tree stumps in woods and forests are perfect for foraging. This bird is also sometimes called orange borer and orange sapsucker, and can be confused with the Red-headed Woodpecker (whose head has totally bright red feathers, not just an orange cap, and has a different body.) The black and white back feathers on these birds help make them easy to identify.
