"Baby Owls Safe with Parent" by Patti Deters. Two young Great Horned (Bubo virginianus) owlets, still in the nest, are kept safe by their parent high in a tree. Barred owls have long tufts of hair at the top of their heads, not really ears at all (the ears are closer to the eyes). The bright yellow gold eyes also help distinguish this predator raptor from other species.
